What is Urea & how is it linked to Formaldehyde?

Grab your products, read your labels, protect your family. Please watch out for this ingredients and the other  “Toxic 12” ingredients  to avoid, in my previous post below. Bookmark this page and check back here often for more EcoNews.

Urea is an organic chemical compound which is the waste produced when the body metabolizes protein. It is a compound not only produced by humans but also by many other mammals, as well as amphibians and some fish. Although it was first extracted from urine, it is now most commonly made through a synthetic process.

The largest issue with urea based preservatives is that they release formaldehyde, a well known carcinogen, as they age. This begins as soon as you have opened your product.

According to a 2009 study by The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, two known carcinogens, 1,4-dioxane and formaldehyde, were found in dozens of bath products for babies and kids including a number of major brands. Though these ingredients were not technically on the label, they were present in the product after it had been opened.

Thanks, have a Safe Green day, and Blessings to All.
